Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs) and Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategies (JHWSs) aim to improve the health and wellbeing of local communities and reduce inequalities across all age groups. Local authorities and Integrated Commissioning Boards (ICBs) share equal responsibility for developing these papers through the Health and Wellbeing Board.

The Cancer JSNA applies statistical population health management to assess the prevalence of cancers within local populations. This analysis enables fair comparisons between local areas and provides insights into the performance of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and general practices.

Deprivation is identified as a major factor influencing cancer outcomes.

The insights generated by this work guide the NHS and local authorities in targeting resources and commissioning services more effectively.
